Tutoring by Timothy Allison
I come from a family with much experience in the education field. My grandma taught at an elementary school for much of her adult life. My dad started as a teacher and moved into the administration side of education, retiring as a superintendent. My brother currently teaches music at a private academy. While my career has not been directly associated to education, being around those in the field has left an impression on me. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering. Instead of pursuing a career strictly in engineering, I opted for a job that would allow me to branch out. I still applied my engineering knowledge and designed structures, but I also gave presentations to architects, engineers, framers, and tradespeople on topics ranging from basic design concepts to installing structural members to advanced concepts in engineering and building codes. I was able to guest lecture at the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Colorado at Denver. I still enjoy being able to do this because I feel I can take a topic, view it from different angles, find multiple ways to approach a solution, understand the student's abilities, and find a way to teach in a way that will reach him or her.
